​Raina Schunk


After completing a one-year internship with SWVG, Raina Schunk has stayed to pursue a residency in avian medicine and surgery. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences as well as her veterinary education from Cornell University. During her time at Cornell, Raina pursued her interests in exotic animals through programs such as the Cornell Raptor Program, Wildlife Health Center, and the Zoo and Wildlife Society, as well as a service trip to Honduras with her peers to provide medical care to macaws and other exotics in animal sanctuaries After graduation, Raina joined a small animal and exotics practice in the Hudson River Valley for a year and a half before deciding to pursue more specialized training in the care of unique pets at SWVG.

In her spare time, Raina enjoys spending time with her husband, their three cats, Mango, Kiwi and Gandalf, their dog Harvey, and their and their Quaker parrot, Cilantro. She also enjoys snowboarding, hockey, boxing and crossfit.
